Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. Over time, Halloween evolved into a secular, community based event characterized by child-friendly activities such as trick-or-treating.
Today, Americans spend an estimated $6 billion annually on Halloween, making it the country’s second largest commercial holiday. Traditional trick-or-treating has morphed into a new trend these days: Trunk – or – Treating.
Organizations around the U.S. sponsor these events where trick-or-treating is done from parked car to parked car. The trunk of one’s car is opened, displaying decorations and candy. Last year, Peterson Stampede Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram sponsored a Classic Car show trunk-or-treat and canned food drive for the surrounding communities, and it was a huge success.
This year, we will feature the Gold Buckle Champion organization and local artists from the Treasure Valley, and a unique pumpkin painting contest for ages 4 to 12 years old. Children who paint, learn to think with an open mind, to look at situations creatively. They develop critical-thinking skills and learn to make decisions about what works and what doesn’t on their own.
Weave your way through “Spook Alley” and then check out some really cool decorated trunks where treats and prizes will be handed out by local businesses.
Not only will you and your family have great fun, you will be helping support the Boise Rescue Mission in Nampa, which provides food for those folks that need a helping hand. Let’s support their mission to end hunger and fill those shelves with our donations for the upcoming holiday season. What a treat to be able to help out those in need! Event is from 1:00 to 4:00 pm – Saturday Oct 24th, 2015.
