As Dodge dealers, we answer a lot of questions about the vehicles we have for sale or lease. We also field a lot of inquiries about the services we offer, the Mopar parts and accessories we sell, and our financing specials. One of the questions we get asked a lot by younger motorists is what they should do during a test drive.
Because so many people are looking for advice about test drives, we figured it would be a good idea to provide some insight into what you should pay attention to before a test drive and what you should do while you’re on the road. Here are some tips for your next test drive:
- Prepare in Advance: Everyone at our Dodge car dealership near Caldwell, ID advises you to prepare in advance for your test drive. Once you find the specific model you want to take for a test drive, call the dealership to make sure it has the model on site. If the car is available, make an appointment to test drive the vehicle. Make copies of your license and car insurance information so you can give them to your salesperson. This will save you some time when you visit the car dealership in person.
- Inspect the Automobile: Before you get behind the wheel of the car, take a few minutes to inspect the vehicle. Make sure the automobile has enough cargo space and that it’s versatile enough for the things you transport regularly. Test the car’s seats, making sure they’ll keep you and your passengers comfortable during long trips and that they’re easy to get in and out of.
- Pay Attention: When you’ve completed your inspection, it’ll be time for you to hit the road. As you drive, pay attention to the way the automobile responds to your driving commands. Try its brakes to make sure the vehicle will come to a full stop without you having to apply an excessive amount of pressure on the brake pedal. Check to see if the noise the car makes will be tolerable by closing the windows, turning the radio off, and listening. Make sure the automobile’s acceleration is sufficient for you to merge into fast-paced traffic by taking the car on the highway.
- Take Notes: When you return to the car dealership, make notes about the things you liked and disliked about the vehicle. Consider making a list of features such as seats, infotainment system, and steering responsiveness and giving each a grade between A and F. This will help you remember your opinions as you think about whether you’re going to buy or lease the automobile.
