Who could forget the famous shootout at the OK Corral or the exploits of Wild Bill Hickok? These gunslingers were well known for their prowess with the gun and most of the showdowns were a result of an argument over women, gambling or land disputes.
Wyatt Earp is well known for his participation in the OK Corral shootout but he was also involved in a not so famous shootout right here in Idaho. In January of 1884, 36 year old Wyatt and his wife Josie, joined a “stampede” of others bound for Coeur d’Alene looking for Gold. Eagle City was a hot bed of legal activities: claim jumping and those who disregarded property lines. One of Wyatt’s partners became embroiled in a bitter property dispute and the bullets were once again flying in all directions. Wyatt and Jim Earp took prominent roles as “Peacemakers” and brought the feud to an end.
The editors of Pickup Trucks.com recently had a shootout of their own to the tune of $30,000. The order of business …trucks, not guns. This shootout was all about the best bang (truck) for your buck. Mark Williams, the editor of PickupTrucks.com stated, “With money being a major concern for everyone right now and pickup trucks being the best selling vehicles in the country, it was important for the focus of this shootout to be about value over anything else.”
The shootout pitted a Ram 1500 Quad Cab Hemi against similarly priced entries from Ford, Chevy, Nissan and Toyota. Entries were judged on towing capacity, performance, handling, styling and fuel economy. The “Ram” not only outperformed the other four trucks, but also had the fewest sacrifices or compromises, feature wise. That is why it won. “This test is an overwhelmingly strong third party validation of Ram trucks value for the money and proof positive that we are meeting the needs and expectations of our truck customers,” said Fred Diaz, Ram Truck Brand President and CEO-Chrysler Group LLC.”
