Tires are one of the most important features on our cars – as well as the least understood. Tires are critical for traction, handling performance, and noise dampening. It does not matter how powerful your car is if your tires don’t grip the road under driving conditions you experience. Tires are your car’s only contact to the road.
So, no matter how good an engine your car has, how good a construction it has , what basic speed and acceleration it has, in the end it all comes down to tires and how they can alter your car’s performance on the road. And that’s not all, it’s not only about choosing from good tires and bad tires, or cheap tires and expensive tires. You have to choose between sizes of tires, seasons and conditions your tires are made for.
1. Make sure you’re choosing the proper size of tires. A wrong size of tires can mean everything from a slight discomfort to a serious safety issue.
2. If you’re driving in a certain season, it’s best to use a tire made for that season. For example summer tires in the summer, winter tires in the winter. A compromise exists, namely the all-season tires, but they also have certain drawbacks, like the fact that they perform averagely in every season except for the winter, and in winter they perform very poorly, so you should avoid using them during the winter at all costs.
3. Consider Ride Quality when purchasing tires. A low profile tire looks great but can be harsh over bumps and potholes. Lower profile tires also have stiffer sidewalls, which improves handling but increase rides harshness.
4. Noise: Some tread designs are noisier than others and it varies significantly between tire brands and tread designs.
