We are nearing the finish line. For those of us who have been patiently waiting for a Jeep brand pickup truck, the wait is almost over. Taking cues from the popular Jeep Scrambler CJ-8 from the 1980’s, Mopar has designed a kit that converts a Jeep Wrangler into a pickup truck.
The CJ-8 Scrambler, first built by American Motors Company in 1981, was a stretched CJ-7 with a short top and pickup truck bed. By the time it was replaced by the Jeep Comanche, 27,792 CJ-8’s had been built. The Scrambler came with a standard 5 speed manual transmission and an 82 hp 4 cylinder 151 cubic inch engine.
The JK-8 conversion kit enables you die hard Wrangler lovers to morph your Jeep into a two-door pickup truck. The JK-8 kit was first revealed at this year’s Moab Jeep Safari, an annual off-road event coordinated by Chrysler. The kit consists of new body panels that make up the pickup bed, a new bulkhead behind the front seats, new B-pillars, roll bar extensions, and a removable fiberglass roof.
For those of us who could not make the journey to Moab, all is not lost! The real deal will be available to view first hand at Peterson Stampede Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Nampa, Idaho. The crew at Peterson Autoplex Body Shop in Boise has been hard at work completing the transformation and the process has been amazing (and a little scary at times) by the looks of some of these photo’s!
I wonder who is going to be the first to test drive this beauty? Our sales staff will be happy to schedule a test drive or answer any questions you may have………give them a call. With the go-anywhere capabilities of a Jeep and the practicality of a truck, who would not want to be the first to take this baby home and park it in the driveway? If you just can’t wait to see the finished project and want to give it a go yourself, call our parts department today and order a kit of your very own. Stay tuned for the final “finished” photo’s!
