Calling all car fanatics. Got a little free time this weekend? Why not stop by the Boise Roadster Show at Expo Idaho and be blown away by the lineup of spectacular cars on display.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Roadster Show presented by Les Schwab Tires. This event annually attracts competitors from throughout the United States and Canada. With over 250 entries every year, the lineup of cars ranges from radical customs and knockout rods to impressive restored cars to ultra-cool trucks.
Entrants will be competing for numerous awards; the most coveted being the Goldmark Statue. The Goldmark winner receives $1,000 in cash and an impressive embroidered jacket. The “Essence of Cool” award will also be presented to the entry that exemplifies the spirit of this special award.
An assortment of attractions will headline the four-day show, including the Amazing Spiderman from Marvel Comics throughout the day and early evening on
Saturday, March 10. And new for 2012, Sunday, March 11, will feature the first Gem state appearance of Captain America, who is set to appear in the
forthcoming motion picture Avengers-Assemble this coming May.
The Roadster Show will feature the famed “John Wayne Corvette.” The 1953 Corvette, the 51st Corvette off the production line was owned by the legendary western movie star.
The “King of the Kustomizers” George Barriswill will make a special guest appearance throughout all four days and nights of the show. The 87-year-old builder built cars such as the Batmobile, General Lee, Munster Koach, Green Hornet, Fast and Furious cars and many other creations for the movie and television industry.
Let’s not forget our local talent and car aficionado’s. Mopars Unlimited of Idaho classic car club will have four vehicles on display for your viewing pleasure. Stop by and check out Dennis Cole’s restored 1937 Plymouth 4 dr Sedan, Kevin Petty’s 1971 Cuda 340, Frank Madsen’s 2002 Yellow Prowler, and Jaymes Buchanen’s 2009 Challenger RT. This club is celebrating their 25th anniversary! Way to go guys!
Another local is in the spotlight at this years show….Nampa’s very own Charley Hutton, one of the country’s top customizers. Charley has two entires this year: a two toned silver 1937 Ford Sedan and a second “Hutton” built 1953 Chevy pickup, owned by Robert Komlofske of Princeville, Oregon.
